How to screenshot a whole page on Windows
Win+Shift+S, Print Screen and Snipping Tool capture the screen and stop at its edge; none of them scrolls. To get a whole web page on Windows you use the browser: Edge has a full page option built in, Chrome needs an extension or a hidden command, Firefox has a menu item. For windows that are not a browser there are free Windows apps. Here are the steps for each, and where each stops.
Snipping Tool, Print Screen and what they cannot do
- Win+Shift+S opens Snipping Tool: rectangle, window, full screen, freeform, and on recent builds screen recording and text extraction. Everything it captures is on the screen at that moment.
- PrtScn copies the screen to the clipboard; Win+PrtScn saves it to Pictures\Screenshots; Alt+PrtScn takes the active window.
- Win+G opens the Game Bar, which records and captures the screen.
There is no scrolling capture among them, on Windows 11 or 10. What is below the fold is not in the picture, which is why every method below is either in the browser or a separate app.
Edge: Web Capture, built in
Microsoft Edge is the one desktop browser with a full page screenshot built into its screenshot tool, and it is on every Windows PC.
Press Ctrl+Shift+S. Or click the three-dot menu and choose Screenshot. Edge dims the page and offers Capture area and Capture full page.
Choose Capture full page. Edge scrolls the page and opens the result in a viewer with a pen and an eraser.
Copy or save. Copy puts the image on the clipboard; Save writes a PNG to Downloads. That is the whole tool: no blur, no text, no crop to size, no PDF, no history.
Web Capture photographs what the page itself scrolls. A Gmail thread, a Notion page or a dashboard that scrolls inside a panel comes out one screen tall, sticky headers can repeat, and images that load on scroll may be missing. The Edge page has the full comparison.
Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers: the extension
In Chrome the built-in route is a developer command (F12, Ctrl+Shift+P, “Capture full size screenshot”; the Chrome guide walks through it). For anything beyond a plain article, an extension is the tool. These steps are for FullPage Capture, a free scrolling screenshot extension for Windows, which we make; it works the same in Edge.
Install FullPage Capture. From the Chrome Web Store, or Edge Add-ons in Edge. Free, no account, no watermark. Brave, Opera and Vivaldi install the Chrome build.
Open the page and click the icon. Or press Alt+Shift+K. The page scrolls and captures itself: sticky headers once, panels that scroll inside the page unrolled, images that load on scroll waited for.
Copy, annotate or save. The whole page opens as one image in a result tab. Copy it, open the editor to draw, blur or crop, or save it as PNG, JPEG or a PDF with page breaks between lines. Every capture stays in Files, in the browser, until you delete it.

Firefox: Save full page
Right-click the page, choose Take Screenshot, then Save full page; copy or download the PNG. It is the simplest built-in option on Windows after Edge's, with the same limits on inner scrollers and images that load on scroll, and no editor. FullPage Capture does not run in Firefox.
Any window, not just the browser: Windows apps
To scroll-capture something that is not a web page, a Teams or Slack window, a long settings screen, a document viewer, you need an app that scrolls the window itself:
- ShareX (free, open source): Scrolling capture under Capture, plus uploads, OCR and a workflow system.
- PicPick (free for personal use): Scrolling Window capture and a simple editor.
- Snagit (paid): Panoramic capture and a full editor, on Mac too.
They stitch screen frames as the window scrolls, so a header fixed inside the window can repeat and fast-changing content can misalign. For web pages in Chrome or Edge the extension gives a cleaner result, because it works from inside the page and knows where the header is.

- Display scaling. At 125% or 150% scaling the capture has more pixels than the page's CSS width; that is the sharp original, not an error.
- Very long pages. Chrome's canvas limit is 28,800 pixels per side; the extension saves numbered parts beyond it. Web Capture may fail silently.
- Dark mode. A dark page is captured on its own dark background, not on white.
- Infinite scroll. Scroll until you have what you need, then capture; the capture takes what is loaded.
- Pasting into Word or Google Docs. Copy from the extension's result tab; very large captures are scaled to fit Google Docs' paste limit, which can be turned off in the options.
Questions
Can Snipping Tool take a scrolling screenshot?
No. Snipping Tool (Win+Shift+S) captures a rectangle, a window, the full screen or a freeform shape, and only what is on the screen at that moment. There is no scroll or "capture more" option in it, on Windows 11 or Windows 10.
What is the shortcut for a full page screenshot on Windows?
Windows has none of its own. In Edge, Ctrl+Shift+S opens Web Capture with a full page option. In Chrome with FullPage Capture installed the shortcut is Alt+Shift+K; without it, the built-in command is in DevTools (F12, Ctrl+Shift+P, "Capture full size screenshot").
Is it the same on Windows 11 and Windows 10?
Yes. The screenshot tools of the system differ only cosmetically; the browser methods and the apps below are identical on both.
Why is the header repeated all the way down my screenshot?
A header that stays fixed while the page scrolls is photographed on every screen by tools that stitch screens, including most Windows apps and sometimes Edge. The extension captures it once, at the top, and hides it for the rest of the capture.
Why does my screenshot stop after one screen of Gmail, Notion or a dashboard?
Because the page does not scroll; a panel inside it does. Web Capture and Chrome's built-in command capture the page element and get one screen of the panel. The extension finds the real scroller and unrolls that.
How do I take a full page screenshot of a page that needs a login?
Every method on this page runs inside your own browser, so they all see what you see. Online "URL to screenshot" services do not, because their server is not signed in as you.
How do I capture a long window that is not a web page, such as a chat app or a settings screen?
With a Windows app that drives the scrolling itself: ShareX or PicPick (free) or Snagit (paid), all listed above. A browser extension only sees web pages.
Can I save the whole page as a PDF on Windows?
